Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez make 'final decision' in Arsenal contract talks

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will reject any fresh contract offers from Arsenal according to the latest reports, even though manager Arsene Wenger is set to remain in charge for another two years.

The future of Sanchez and Ozil has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with the duo failing to accept offers of fresh deals from Arsenal as they prepare to enter the final year of their current contracts.

Ozil had suggested that he would not make a decision on his Arsenal future until manager Arsene Wenger resolved whether he would be staying at the club, with Sanchez equally uncertain of his own plans amid strong interest from Bayern Munich.

Now The Times are reporting that the star duo will not sign new deals with Arsenal, even though the club will confirm that Wenger has signed a new two year contract to remain as Gunners manager.

The report claims Ozil will wind down the final year of his contract before sealing a free transfer next summer, with Sanchez keen to leave now to tie up a move to German champions Bayern Munich.

With Sanchez's agent reportedly flying in to try and finalise his move to Germany, that deal may be hard to Arsenal to block as as they look to rebuild their squad after failing to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The suggestion that Ozil will try and see out the last 12-months of his Arsenal deal before finalising a big money free transfer will concern Arsenal officials, who are unlikely to allow a player that cost a club record £42.4m when he arrived from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 to leave for nothing.

While Wenger has insisted he has no intention of allowing Ozil or Sanchez to leave this summer, he made similar claims over star names who had one-year left on their contract in the passed before sanctioning their sale.

Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri are among the players who have left Arsenal after entering the final year of their contract, with Wenger offering up these comments to explain the sale of Nasri to Manchester City in 2011.

“Football rules are made like that, that the player can be worth a lot of money today and nothing in six months so it doesn’t look completely logical but, at the end of the day, of course, we are forced into a decision like that for psychological and financial reasons," he stated at the time.

"I am a realist so I have no illusions. It's part of the modern life of a professional football player. Keeping a player with one year left is difficult for a number of reasons."

Given those comments, it is unlikely that the club will allow either Ozil or Sanchez to leave on free transfers next summer and if they have decided not to sign new deals with Arsenal, their departures this summer may be inevitable.
