Atletico Madrid are powerless to stop United swooping due to the striker’s £89million buy-out clause. And now, according to The Sun, a £280,000-a-week contract offer has been accepted by the 26-year-old. Jose Mourinho appears set to land his No1 target and bolster his frontline at Old Trafford. Griezmann has outlined concerns about moving to the Premier League, including the weather in England. But following Atletico’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday, the wheels are in motion for his move to United. The mammoth deal for Griezmann will apparently be for five years, and including wages and bonuses, the figure is set to reach £170m. The hitman is said to have been handed reassurances by United about other signings this summer and an increase on an original contract offer. Manchester United must pay his buy-out clause in one lump sum, but they are currently preparing for the process.

Congo DR (41st), Tunisia (42nd) Ghana (45th) Côte d’Ivoire (48th) and Morocco (53rd) make up Africa’s top 10 in that order. Brazil remain the highest-ranked nation in the world. Roma legend Francesco Totti is to retire from playing at the end of the season, the club’s new sporting director Monchi has revealed. The 40-year-old forward and club captain has scored 307 goals in 783 appearances since making his Roma debut 24 years ago. He will become a director at the club he has served all his career. “There is an agreement with the club that this will be his last year,” Monchi said. “Then he will continue as a director. I want him on my side because he is Roma and can teach me what Roma is,” the Spaniard added. Roma’s final game of the season at home to Genoa on 28 May will be his last. Totti, a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, has won one Serie A title and two Coppa Italias at Roma. He was widely expected to quit playing last summer but signed a one-year extension to his contract. He has made 25 appearances this season, mostly as a substitute.
